FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

BACKSTORY IN BLUE: ELLINGTON AT NEWPORT '56
A Conversation with Music with Author John Fass Morton

6:00pm - Free

Join actor turned author John Fass Morton for a reading with music and a fascinating look behind the scenes at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival - an epic moment in American cultural history. A must-see for jazz fans. Click here to read a review of "Backstory in Blue" from Metroland.

". . .Great art deserves exhaustive studies. The polyglot nature of American culture is often difficult to study strand by strand, but Morton’s book not only does an admirable job of untwining the many threads that led to Ellington’s Newport triumph but also reminds us that music like this is important enough to warrant such a scholarly examination as this one."  - Metroland, 8/28/08
